Last night, Oklahoma confirmed that two players — defensive tackle Marquis Anderson and cornerback Gary Simon — were no longer with the team for unspecified reasons. SoonerScoop.com reported the departures just before the announcements, adding that defensive tackle Damon Williams was also no longer a member of the team.
That has since been confirmed by OU as well. Again, no specific reason was given.
Like Anderson and Simon, Williams was rarely used in the 2012 season, recording just two tackles in one appearance. The impact of the departure continues to be depth along the defensive line, which will be noticeably thin this spring.
It was announced last week that Sooners defensive tackles coach Jackie Shipp would not return for the 2013 season.
