Pair of Sooner defenders no longer with the team

Florida AM Oklahoma Football AP

With the start of spring practice just weeks away for Oklahoma, two Sooners will not be participating in the first organized step toward the start of the 2013 season.

Oklahoma confirmed to multiple outlets Sunday night that defensive tackle Marquis Anderson and cornerback Gary Simon (pictured) are no longer with the team. SoonerScoop.com reported the two were off the team shortly before it became official.

Simon had just two tackles in three games in 2012, but was thought to have plenty of upside in the years ahead. Anderson, a four-star member of OU’s 2011 recruiting class, had five tackles in four games. Their departures will further thin two defensive spots that already figure to be stretched during spring practices.

What exactly lead to their dismissal, since putting out a story, that really doesn’t tell us anything, isn’t a lot of help. They must have been bad boys if the Stooper let them go.
