Cameron inks three-year, $3.4 million deal with LSU

Les Miles made a significant commitment earlier this week to Cam Cameron, turning over the keys of his LSU offense to his longtime friend and coaching contemporary. Wednesday, the school further clarified how big of a commitment was made to Cameron.

In a press release, the school announced that the new Tigers offensive coordinator is in line to receive a three-year contract that would pay him a total of $3.4 million through 2015. The release notes that Cameron’s contract is subject to approval by the LSU Board of Supervisors, although that will merely be a matter of the board rubber-stamping the deal.

Cameron will make $600,000 in 2013, after which his pay will jump to $1.3 million in 2014 and $1.5 million in 2015. The highest-paid coordinator, offensive or defensive, in 2012 was believed to be Clemson’s Chad Morris, who signed a six-year deal in December of 2011 worth an average of $1.3 million annually.

LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis will make $1.1 million this season and $1.3 million in 2014 under the terms of a revamped contract agreed upon last summer.

Cameron had spent the past five seasons as the coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens before being fired prior to the end of the 2012 season. Prior to that, Cameron’s last job at the collegiate level was as the head coach at Indiana from 1997-2001.

He will replace Greg Studwara, the coordinator the past two seasons who will remain on Miles’ staff as offensive line coach.
