It’s official: Cristobal will coach Alabama’s O-line

Following up on reports from two days ago, Alabama has officially named former FIU coach Mario Cristobal as the new offensive line coach for the Tide.

“We are very pleased to announce the addition of Mario Cristobal to our staff,” said Nick Saban in a statement. “He has an outstanding reputation as both a coach and a recruiter. He will be a great fit in our organization and I think our players will respond to his positive attitude and energy. This is a very important hire in terms of working with our offensive line and we feel fortunate that we were able to hire a coach of Mario’s caliber. We want to welcome Mario and his family to the University of Alabama and we are excited to have them here.”

Cristobal comes to Alabama from Miami, his alma mater, where he spent just over a month as the team’s associate head coach and tight ends coach.

Prior to his extremely brief stint at Miami, Cristobal was the head coach at FIU for six seasons, where he compiled a 27-47 overall record that saw back-to-back winning seasons in 2010 and ’11.
