WVU reportedly hires new O-line coach from Stanford

Dana Holgorsen AP

With Bill Bedenbaugh leaving to take a job with Oklahoma, West Virginia’s search for an offensive line coach may well be coming to an end.

Per Mitch Vingle of the Charleston Gazette, Mountaineers coach Dana Holgorsen has hired Stanford tight ends and offensive tackles coach Ron Crook to coach WVU’s O-line. Footballscoop.com, which was also reporting a possible move for Crook, said the deal is close to being done.

Officially, WVU has not commented.

Crook has been with the Cardinal the past two seasons, during which time Stanford became known as one of the best rushing offenses in college football with tight ends Coby Fleener and Zach Ertz also being regarded as among the best at their position.

WVU, on the other hand, has struggled with offensive line consistency over the past couple of years.

    Going from Stanford to West Virginia might be a bit of a culture shock…

    I can’t even comprehend moving from Palo Alto to Morganhole. How would you explain that to your wife?

    @mydixie

    He’s a West Virginia native, so no real “culture shock”. It’s a football town, a place where coaches love to be a part of, but we also understand that we will be poached from time to time for more prestigious jobs.

    Stanford coaches have really been doing well since Harbough was there, and this is a position promotion and considerable pay raise for him as well.

    I edited a book on West Virginia a few years ago. Sounded like a beautiful place with a lot of great outdoor activities. People need to get over their bizarre stereotypes.

    Awesome hire!!

    As for CA vs WV, I would much rather live with the hillbillies than the liberals.

    @wvuandsteelers:

    Actually, California is a pretty conservative state. Most of the governors in the last century have been Republicans. And before Jerry Brown became governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger was in charge.

    Bwahahahahaha @ California being a conservative state. Tons of people leaving that state because of how hell bent Hollywood and liberal idiots like Nancy Pelosi are on bringing in all the illegals so they can to get their socialist agenda passed for CHANGE. Most people won’t want to live in this country four years from now.

    @fnc111:

    I have no idea about your so-called “socialist agenda” but I do know that “illegals” have always handled the bulk of the menial labor.

    People are leaving the state it’s because it’s so freakin’ expensive.

    …and what does “bwahahahahaha” mean?

    @fnc111 …

    You figure “most” Americans will want to leave the U.S. in the next four years because of all the liberals and socialists? Well, hon, I hope they enjoy the rightwing strongholds of Canada, Europe, and the U.K. LOL
