We agree then, that Shalala is a major problem? Her knee-jerk reaction to the NCAA’s internal issue will ultimately cost Miami in the form of more sanctions IMO.

On these threads, I was one of many who said Cam Newton should be ineligible…and it had nothing to do with how Auburn beat South Carolina twice in their “tainted” (IMO) National Championship season. Shortly after, the NCAA changed the rule that if a parent/guardian, etc. “shopped” their son/daughter, the athlete would be automatically ineligible. The horse was out of the barn but at least they fixed the rule.

Finally, if you haven’t gotten by now that my major gripe with Miami is their leadership, than I have either not properly communicated that or you have failed to recognize my point. Now, I must be off to work but I look forward to scribing with you gentlemen later this evening. The Gamecocker

Dude, funky stuff goes on everywhere. The whole reason the light is always so bright on Miami is because of the success that they had in the 80′s. Some of the antics, which many enjoyed, were not well received by the older, stuffy NCAA types. The backflips, the George Jefferson, Thrill Hill and his six guns.

They also whined when Miami beat ND down in Gerry Faust’s last game. They also whined when Miami put the beatdown on a lot of the older “storied” programs because they were not supposed to.

Miami comes back, the NCAA slaps them down. Miami starts to come back again, the NCAA tries to slap them down again.

Which means that those things that were reported, were not in the official NOA, which means that they could not be corroborated. In the United States of America, we have the right to “due process.” So whether it’s a true story, a great story or a lie, it doesn’t matter, because it’s not a part of the NOA in this case. I wasn’t there, you weren’t there, it’s completely irrelevant.

Also, Gamecocker, since you’re attacking people for grammar and sentence structure on a blog site, perhaps you can explain what “Pay for Pay” is. I think you were trying to say “Pay for Play” which is another false accusation against Shalala. I don’t love the woman, but at least you can accuse her of the correct infraction. The U is not accused of creating a “pay for play” scheme organized by the administration. Is Shalala ultimately responsible for not realizing that Shapiro was breaking every rule in the book, yes. But the sum of the NOA that was officially sent to the U, DOES NOT equal the Death Penalty. Scholarship reductions and bowl bans are what the NCAA will deliver for Miami’s infractions. And unlike Ohio State, UNC, USC and some others recently, Miami didn’t wait for the NCAA penalties to come down. Miami started suspending players, and self-banned bowl games. Now we find out that the integrity of the entire investigation is tainted? No death penalty. Not even close. That negative recruiting tactic sounds great, but it’s not working any more. Miami is back.

First off, how often do you rub one off the the thought The U getting hammered because you seem to have a big hard on over this matter? Secondly, aren’t you being a little hypocritical being from the SEC? Everyone knows SEC stars live the life because of the so-called “old money” that can’t be traced. Even my friends from florida, Alabama, LSU, ect. admit their players get paid. So before you go talking about being naive, look in the mirror my friend. You can blame Cam Cam for shedding light on this issue. It was his paycheck that showed the world that in the SEC it’s ok to get paid. A 1 week investigation and he’s cleared and not a peep more by Emmert since, out-of sight-out-of-mind.

Charles Robinson violated so many journalistic standards in his tabloid hit piece by going all in with Shapiro, who interviewed in jail with full knowledge of his vendetta.

Shalala has turned Miami into a top 50 academic university. That didn’t seem possible a few years ago. Miami has one of the highest graduation rates among athletes in the nation.

You’ll notice that the football team has kind of sucked during her tenure. That’s because she’s putting the student back in student athlete and they can’t recruit the guys they recruited before.

She’s been bad for athletics (though they’re doing well right now) and great for the rest of the school. I’m pretty sure Mark Emmert at the NCAA has far less job security than Donna Shalala right now.

I’m really laughing now because you spelled “feel” incorrectly in your first sentence. But I digress: thank-you for your concern about my “stress issues”. I will admit that I get carried away at times, but I mean no harm or offense to you or your Miami brethren. LOL!! I loathe Donna Shalalala….you may have a different opinion of her than me, and I respect that. But I have never liked her when she was in the Clinton Administration and I sure as hell don’t care for her now. She would sooner throw someone under the bus than take the full responsibility. This happened under her watch and she deserves what she gets. If she doesn’t leave, then I will continue to call for the death penalty for U. of Miami. If she is relieved of her position, I am fine with that and the punishment already served by Miami. I never liked many of the scholar-athletes that Miami recruited with 90% emphasis on the athlete and very little on the “Student”. BTW, your grammar is not good at all. Nah! Miami is dirty and it is lead by an unscrupulous politician. Miami is not walking. They have served some time but there is more time needed to be served. At a minimum, they deserve every bit as much as Penn State got.

Bottom line is I bet there was plenty wrong going on concerning Shapiro. But the NCAA is the equivalent of the dirty band of cops who get found out in the middle of a trial. Sure, the defendant might still be guilty, but he’s going to walk when it comes out all the cops involved are unreliable.

Time and punishment has been served at UM. More heads will be rolling out of the front door of the NCAA before this case is closed this summer. Shalala isn’t getting fired. Golden is recruiting. Miami will be back in the BCS very soon. Live with it.

I suspect the amount doesn’t matter as much as whether the NCAA feels that the university knew of the benefits & didn’t act. Remember Jim Tressel was vilified for not revealing his knowledge of free tattoos.
