APJust as UTEP was announcing the addition of quarterback Jameill Showers as a transfer, the coordinator who could’ve benefited from said addition has made his way off a brief stay on the coaching unemployment line.
Hawaii announced via a press release Wednesday night that Aaron Price (pictured, right) has been named as head coach Norm Chow‘s new offensive coordinator. Price had spent the past nine seasons at UTEP, including the last five as coordinator.
“We’re excited that Aaron has joined our staff,” Chow said. “He comes to us with experience as a coordinator and play caller. His offensive background is similar to what we run here and he’s also very well-versed in the spread offense.”
Price’s father, Mike Price (pictured, left), announced his retirement as UTEP’s head coach in November. The younger Price was not retained by new UTEP head coach Sean Kugler upon his hiring last December.
Price also served as Washington State’s quarterbacks coach for the final two seasons (2001-02) of his father’s tenure as the Cougars’ head coach. The job with the Warriors will mark the first time Price has not been a part of a coaching staff headed by his father since 2000.
