- Auburn great Bo Jackson was named the greatest athlete of all time in a fan vote from ESPN.com.
- Checking in on Miami’s second practice of the spring.
- Nick Saban met with reporters to talk spring practice, recruiting deregulation, and more.
- Not football-related, but this baseball pitcher clearly thinks he’s playing football. Pretty funny.
- Really great story from the 1-AA ranks: how Villanova great Andy Talley helped save a young girl’s life.
- Conversely, and sadly, the youngest son of former coach Robert Neyland died at the age of 79.
How can you discount the power of a John Hannah? For a big fellow he was quick on his feet and there were very few that got past him. Then you’ve got the Moose, Johnny Musso, had some speed that was incredible. There’s more to football than just Bo Jackson. Don’t get me wrong Bo was good but there were a lot that never get mentioned that were awarded for their talents just as much.
ESPN fan vote? Assume that all fans were alive and kicking, but it may show how little present day ESPN fans know about athletes of past generations.
I think sportswriters and others for many years have declared Jim Thorpe most consistently since he performed extraordinarly well in two sports (Football and Track Hall of Fames) and did well in a third (baseball), while experiencing huge discrimination and racism. I wrote a report on Thorpe way, way back in grammar school and learned more about him in high school.
Bo is from a past generation,( understand your point on Thorpe), and the vote was for “athlete” not football player
Most that voted prob never say Bo play, just going on the 30 for 30 hype. I saw the man play, both football and baseball, and he was a beast athlete. I have no issue with him being ranked first.
Hard to argue since this was “Best Athlete”. He’s did have the 30 for 30 ( which was awesome!) hype to help his cause…but again…Bo is a worthy selection.
Charlie ward played in the NFL NBA AND MLB… Best athlete of all time!
