Ole Miss officially adds Oklahoma St. assistant

Jason Jones

Following up on reports that surfaced Tuesday, Ole Miss officially announced a new addition to Hugh Freeze’s coaching staff.

The Rebels confirmed via a press release Wednesday that Jason Jones has been added as the team’s co-defensive coordinator.  Positionally, Jones will coach cornerbacks.

Jones had spent the past five seasons at Oklahoma State.

“Jason’s experience and energy makes him a perfect fit for our staff, and we’re excited to get him on campus and ready for spring practice,” head coach Hugh Freeze said in a statement. “He has been a winner at every stop throughout his career, and he has a proven track record as a recruiter. I look forward to coaching alongside him as our team continues its journey.”

The hiring of Jones comes a littler over a week after Wesley McGriff left the Rebels for a job with the New Orleans Saints.

Jones, a former Alabama defensive back, began his coaching career as a grad assistant at his alma mater in 2004.  In addition to his time in Stillwater, he’s served on coaching staff at Tulsa and Rice.
