What if the player says, gee, I can’t play like this, too much pain? I’d love to read the language in the policy. I’ve worked in the insurance sector for a long time, and unfortunately I can tell you firsthand that the goal of every insurance company is to NOT pay out whenever they can avoid it. Personally, I hope he stays healthy, has a great season, and breaks the proverbial bank, and the insurance policy becomes a moot point.

It would be tragic if an injury killed his chances to earn the millions that would come with a high first-round draft selection. But that’s the risk of a sports career. Players can’t just sit and atrophy for a season, hoping their draft stock won’t fall. Who wants to draft a China doll?
