Va Tech brings nothing.

NC and Virginia brings TV market share. I doubt if either team joins the SEC if they have an agreement that Va/VT have to be in the same conference. Same with NC/NC St. I could see the Virginia schools go to the B1G and the North Carolina schools to the SEC.

Everything is contingent upon Notre Dame remaining a member of the the ACC.
With them the ACC survives, without them, it’s every program for itself.

So you are saying if the four biggest teams in the ACC decide to leave and join the SEC then the ACC might be in trouble? Excellent deduction there. Now I can’t really understand why the ACC wanted this deal with ND. The ACC basically gave ND everything they want while getting nothing in return. ND IS football. No one really cares about basketball until March.

ND tried to join the Big 10 a few times in the era of leather helmets, but the most recent attempt was 60 years ago (the spot that ultimately went to MSU).

Since then the Big Ten has approached the Irish a couple of times, but ND has turned them down (though they were close to joining in both ’99 and ’10)

You and the ACC might say good riddance to Maryland, but this will set a precedence to the other teams who are watching. FSU and Vatech might be paking their bags in case the SEC comes calling with their bank roles. And if the B12 come calling for more teams, Gtech, Clemson, who else will be very tempted. The left behind teams will not be able to wait to get off the sinking ship. And if the B1G wants those final 2 teams to get to 16, ACC teams will line up waiting to be offered! Where else can a league get halfway decent teams to join them. It is musical chairs and their are only a few left in the future super 16 leagues. Then the ACC and the former Big East will merge. ND will have to join B1G and leave the ACC just like the Big East after it gets picked clean. Call me crazy, but this is how I see it playing out.

Notre Dame tried to join the B1G and was rejected? When did that happen? It must have been in the 30s. It’s difficult to imagine a modern-day Big 10 would turn down the financial rewards of an affiliation with Notre Dame. Then again … for all the bragging B1G fans do about how brilliant their football players are, their conference management clearly runs a few bricks shy of a full load.

The ACC picked almost all of the former Big East schools, with a few left. So, is Maryland the snowball that starts the next team pillaging of a former pillager. SEC gets to 16, Big 12 goes for at least 2 (maybe 6 to match the SEC) and the Big Ten needs two more if Conneticutor or Cincy doesn’t fill their need. The ACC is just not the top predator and their fate lies in the hands of the bug leagues. I see ND finally moving to the Big Ten, just don’t know how long that will come to fruition.

Then there are the special rules written into the BCS just so they can compeat! Another reason they have so many haters.

These issues are so obvious to everyone who is not a ND fan. Jack Swarbucks needs to take his blinders off and become a full fledged member of a conference. The BCS will be gone soon along with the “special exceptions” maybe then the rest of the college football will start to have a little respect for them.

A partnership with the SEC or big 12 is the only shot for the ACC to keep it’s status quo.
