Backup defensive tackle leaving Beavers for Portland State

A week away from the start of spring practice, Oregon State’s defensive line has taken a bit of a hit and yes we’re in a news lull so get off my back.

The Beavers announced Friday that defensive tackle Joe Lopez has decided to transfer out of the OSU football program. Lopez will drop down to the FCS level and play for Portland State in 2013.

The school stated that Lopez has signed an athletic aid agreement with Portland State and will participate in spring practice with the Vikings.

No reason for the transfer was given.

Lopez played in 16 games the past two years for the Beavers, including 10 in 2012 when he was listed No. 2 on the depth chart in the latter portion of the season.
