Kentucky’s Donte Rumph has surgery, expected to make full recovery

Kentucky coach Mike Stoops said earlier this week that defensive lineman Donte Rumph had a “significant injury” that was likely going to knock him out for the remainder of spring practices.

Stoops confirmed as much Friday, though he did add a few additional details that give Wildcats fans some reason for optimism. Via ESPN’s SEC blogger Chris Low, Stoops said Rumph had shoulder surgery, but doctors expect him to make a full recovery. He should be available by the time fall camp rolls around.

In the meantime, Tristian Johnson has been practicing in Rumph’s place. Johnson started nine games last year.

Rumph finished last season with 36 tackles in 11 games. He is expected to be play a significant role for the Wildcats this year.
