Freshman QB Swoopes the talk of Texas’ spring game

David Ash may be Texas’ starting quarterback for 2013, but the player who raised the most eyebrows in the Longhorns’ annual Orange-White scrimmage was the one who has only been on campus a few months.

The talk of Austin was freshman signal caller Tyrone Swoopes, an early enrollee and four-star member of Texas’ 2012 recruiting class. Though Swoopes appeared in only one series which resulted in a field goal, his 21-yard scramble against Texas’ first-team defense had the some 46,000 fans in attendance buzzing.

After the scrimmage, it was confirmed that Swoopes had emerged as the No. 3 QB for the Horns behind veterans Ash and Case McCoybut ahead of Connor Brewer and Jalen Overstreet.

Ash, for the record, went 17 of 24 for 162 yards and two touchdowns and two interceptions while McCoy went 7-of-11 for 80 yards.

The plan for Texas could be to redshirt Swoopes to give him time to learn whatever offense the Longhorns are running this year, but Mack Brown said that’s not a guarantee.

We are trying to get the best quarterback that we need,” Brown said. “And obviously Case will be gone in a year so someone needs to be ready to go.”

Swoopes is raw and no one is — or should be, anyway — labeling him as the future of the program right now, but the freshman is off to an impressive start.

LOL! Like running against Texas is hard. Please pen all of your hopes on this kid. He is VY without the passing ability. Texas continues its march to irrelevance. Please sign Mack Brown to a ten year extension!

Why does this website focus on the University of Texas to the point of idiocracy?

UT hasn’t been relevant since Vince Young’s knee was down in the national championship game.

Colt McCry lasted what, 5 plays against Alabama?

I’m sure Kerchaval will be ranking the longhorns in his top 5 going into next year.

Top 5 in sexual harassment for sure. Where are the hard hitting articles on Bev Kearney and Cleve Bryant and Major Applewhite?

Just you we all are on the same page, Major Applewhite was fucking a student trainer on the football team (a direct subordinate) while his wife was dilated at about 8 centimeters.

Why do you waist your time pimping up a program like this, Kercheval?

And 46,000? really? You didn’t actually attend the game did you?

Actual attendance might have been half that.

    Quit making shit up.

Texas haters out in full on a Sunday night. Anyway, a 21 yard scramble on one drive that ended in a FG that had the fans buzzing says more about Ash than it does about the other kid. I think.

I’d be angry too if I had to spend Easter with the in-laws. Feel ya, bro.

Title says it all…it’s all talk..to other posters point – should have been more written about Ash and rest of team. Wonder if McCoy is mentoring Swoopes to be creepy and a voyeur… One day we will be reading about him with a run in with the law…Book ‘Em
