Bielema says Brandon Allen has the early edge to succeed Tyler Wilson

Arkansas’ first scrimmage of the spring was held over the weekend. Among the questions still looming in Fayetteville was who would succeed Tyler Wilson as the Hogs’ quarterback.

First year coach thinks, as of right now, that edge belongs to sophomore Brandon Allen.

“I would think going into today Brandon Allen might’ve had a little bit of an edge,” Bielema said. “But I really like the way Brandon … Brandon Mitchell’s got great presence with the team. The kids are into it.”

Allen, Wilson’s primary backup last year, went 11-of-19 for 137 yards, a touchdown and an interception with the first-team offense, while Mitchell went 7-of-14 for 112 yards and a short touchdown pass.

The competition between Allen and Mitchell is expected to continue through the spring.
