USC confirms torn ACL for George Farmer

As first reported by Scott Wolf of the Los Angeles Daily News -- that one’s for you, Ben -- USC has confirmed that it’s lost a potential offensive playmaker to a very significant injury.

On its Twitter feed Thursday night, USC acknowledged that George Farmer suffered tears of both his ACL and MCL. As a result, Farmer will miss the 2013 season.

The injury-plagued wide receiver will undergo surgery once the swelling in his knee subsides and, obviously, take a redshirt for the 2013 season.

“George was having one of the best springs of any receiver,” Trojans WR coach Tee Martin said according to the Los Angeles Times.

Farmer suffered the injury during a non-contact drill this past Tuesday. A subsequent MRI confirmed the extent of the injury.

A five-star member of the Trojans’ 2011 recruiting class, Farmer was rated as the No. 1 wide receiver in the country and the No. 3 player at any position. Injuries have limited him to 13 games the past two seasons.
