As you’ve probably read by now, Texas wide receiver Kendall Sanders was arrested early Saturday morning on a drunk-driving charge. The incident was the second legal issue for a Longhorns receiver this offseason, the first coming courtesy of Cayleb Jones, who was charged with felony assault after allegedly breaking the jaw of a UT tennis player.
While Jones’ alleged actions resulted in an indefinite suspension, the same cannot be said for Sanders... right now. In a statement released Sunday morning, Longhorns coach Mack Brown said he was and “disappointed” in Sanders’ decision to get behind the wheel of a vehicle while intoxicated, but did not elaborate on any sort of punishment for the sophomore-to-be; rather, Brown explained he would continue to monitor the situation to gather more details.
“We’re aware of Kendall’s situation, have talked with him and his family, and are disappointed any time one of our players is accused of wrongdoing. We take a strong stance against drinking and driving and will continue to monitor this situation to get more details,” the statement read. “Following the completion of the legal process, we will do what’s best for The University, Kendall and the team. One thing we have great pride in about our program is our family atmosphere and there also will be discipline handled within our family.”
Sanders was booked, as fate would have it, by Texas A&M police at 5:10 a.m. Saturday morning and released a couple of hours later on a $3,000 bond. As a true freshman in 2012, Sanders caught two passes for 15 yards. He was competing for a starting job for the Horns this upcoming season.
