ACC commissioner says Notre Dame-Florida State is a go in ’14

Arizona State’s intentions be damned, it appears Notre Dame and Florida State will play in 2014.

ACC commissioner John Swofford told FSU administrators Friday afternoon that the game between the two teams was on, though he did not make a formal announcement. Additionally, no date has been set for the game. The Orlando Sentinel reports that Notre Dame currently has two other open spots — Oct. 18 and Nov. 22 — in 2014 that will be filled with ACC opponents.

Warchant.com reported earlier this week that the Irish, as part of its scheduling agreement with the ACC, was set to travel to Tallahassee to take on the ‘Noles in 2014. The problem was that game resulted in Notre Dame bumping its road game at Arizona State from its schedule that season. Not surprisingly, ASU wasn’t too happy about that.

ASU and Notre Dame are still scheduled to meet this year in Arlington and in South Bend in 2017. What ASU will do for its Oct. 25 opening next year, and how much money Notre Dame may fork over as a result, remains to be seen.

So what does the ACC do for quality games before then? How about after?? Than again, is this really that big of a match-up???

I’m excited, I went to the bowl game in Orlando 2 years ago and was surprised at how many Irish fans were still mad over the 92 season. I would’ve thought they would have drowned that snubbing away in whiskey. Thanks BC!

1993 – Notre Dame beat Florida State and took over #1 in the polls.

The next week Florida State beat a top ten Florida team AT Florida

That same day Notre Dame couldn’t defend its home turf against an unranked Boston College team and lost on the last play of the game.

Therefore FSU took over the top spot – it was and remains JUST that simple.

During the 1993 ND-BC game Chris Collinsworth remarked on the fact that in 1992 ND had rubbed BC’s nose in it during a ND blowout @ ND -about as blatant an example of poor sportsmanship as I’ve seen in a while.

The next year was payback – BIG time.

ND fans who haven’t gotten over it yet – get over it because ND did NOT deserve to win the NC in 1993.

    FYI – I am a ND fan.

Well I’m over ’93 however, I’m not sure you can say that FSU deserved NC more than Notre Dame. I’ll take head to head win over a letdown loss to BC for proof.
