ACC commissioner says Notre Dame-Florida State is a go in ’14

Arizona State’s intentions be damned, it appears Notre Dame and Florida State will play in 2014.

ACC commissioner John Swofford told FSU administrators Friday afternoon that the game between the two teams was on, though he did not make a formal announcement. Additionally, no date has been set for the game. The Orlando Sentinel reports that Notre Dame currently has two other open spots -- Oct. 18 and Nov. 22 -- in 2014 that will be filled with ACC opponents.

Warchant.com reported earlier this week that the Irish, as part of its scheduling agreement with the ACC, was set to travel to Tallahassee to take on the ‘Noles in 2014. The problem was that game resulted in Notre Dame bumping its road game at Arizona State from its schedule that season. Not surprisingly, ASU wasn’t too happy about that.

ASU and Notre Dame are still scheduled to meet this year in Arlington and in South Bend in 2017. What ASU will do for its Oct. 25 opening next year, and how much money Notre Dame may fork over as a result, remains to be seen.
