Arizona offensive line coach Robert Anae came back to his old stomping grounds at BYU this past January as the Cougars’ offensive coordinator. Now, the two sides will share something else: the same football field.
Both schools made a joint announcement Friday for a three-game series. The first game, in 2016, will be played in Glendale at the University of Phoenix Stadium. BYU will then travel to Tucson in 2018 with Arizona heading to Provo in 2020.
“This is a great regional series and a unique opportunity for our large fan base in Arizona to see us play,” said BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe. “Arizona has a great football tradition and University of Phoenix Stadium is an incredible NFL venue. I believe the venue and location will attract a lot of our fans in support of the Cougars.”
Arizona leads the overall series 12-9-1, winning the last matchup with the Cougars in 2008 Las Vegas Bowl.
