Mal Moore posthumously given emeritus status

Ten days before his passing last month, former Alabama athletic director Mal Moore stepped down because of ongoing health problems. Moore said at the time that he would serve in a reduced role as a special assistant President Judy Bonner, and the plan was for Moore to receive emeritus status as well. Sadly, the first part didn’t happen, but Alabama is making sure the second part does.

the University System’s Board of Trustees voted to posthumously appoint Moore as Athletic Director Emeritus in their meeting in Huntsville today. According to the resolution, the decision was made because Moore “made an indelible mark on one of the nation’s most storied athletic programs and generating devotion from the university community...”

Moore died at the age of 73 and was part of 10 national championships at Alabama. He was succeeded by Bill Battle.
