NMSU player in ICU after suffering spinal cord injury

Unfortunately, there’s sobering news coming out of New Mexico State regarding a player who suffered a significant injury over the weekend.

According to a release from the school, cornerback Miles Washington suffered a spinal cord injury during a spring practice session this past Saturday. Emergency surgery was performed to stabilize the redshirt freshman, the school stated.

From NMSU’s release:

Miles is resting in the intensive care unit and will remain there for the near future. The next 48 hours will be critical but at this time no further information on his condition is available.

The school added that the athletic department “asks that the privacy of the family be respected.”

Washington was a member of NMSU’s 2012 recruiting class and took a redshirt last season.

This is a tough situation. We just hope and pray the best for Miles. The entire team will be praying for him and we are just going to believe that good things will come.” NMSU head coach Doug Martin said shortly after the player sustained the injury.

Suffice to say, our thoughts and prayers go out to Miles and his family as he embarks on what will likely be a lengthy and arduous rehabilitation.
