Defensive lineman to reportedly transfer from Michigan State

With the end of spring practice coming to a close this weekend, the career of one defensive lineman at Michigan State has reportedly already come to an end.

According to mlive.com‘s Mike Griffith, defensive end Jeremy Gainer is expected to transfer from the Spartans and continue his playing career elsewhere. Gainer has not participated in any of the spring practice sessions thus far and, obviously, will not play in Saturday’s spring game.

There’s no word yet on where the Detroit native may transfer.

Gainer was a four-star member of the Spartans’ 2009 recruiting class, rated as the No. 15 outside linebacker in the country in that class. He had played mainly on special teams while appearing in 27 games the past two seasons, after which he was an Academic All-Big Ten selection those two years.

As Gainer will graduate in the next couple of months, he will be eligible to play in 2013 if he lands at another FBS school.
