Rumors/reports/speculation of an expansion to Texas A&M’s Kyle Field have been ongoing for some time. As early as tomorrow, they could become a reality.

According to multiple reports from KBTX and, the A&M System Board of Regents could vote on renovations to the stadium Wednesday. A press conference has tentatively been scheduled for 6:00 p.m. that evening. Billy Liucci of adds that the project could mean an expansion of at least 102,000 occupants.

Kyle Field currently has a capacity of around 82,500.

Such an expansion would possibly give A&M the largest stadium in the SEC and would make it among the biggest in the country, but there’s also this to consider: Texas’ DKR Memorial Stadium holds just over 100,000 people.

We’re just throwing that out there.

I think the record attendance at Neyland is 110,000.

That’s cool I always wondered what it would be like to have student tickets and tuition increase while the NCAA makes more money.

Congratulations to the Aggies! They will need that expanded capacity. It gives the SEC some of the largest capacity stadiums.

LSU’s Stadium expansion is ongoing. Total capacity anticipated when complete around 98 – 100K.

Currently, the SEC has two stadiums and capacities which will exceed the anticipated expanded capacity of Kyle Field or LSU’s Tiger Stadium:

    1. Neyland, Knoxville 102,455

    2. Bryant-Denny, Tuscaloosa 101,821

One quick point, both Neyland and Bryant-Denny have have more than those official capacity numbers in attendance, bringing those totals to about 2 to 3K more than the listed figures. The same may well be planned for Kyle.

Capacity is usually well understated, the current capacity at Kyle is 82K+, but they have had 90K+ in it. So if the capacity is 102K, expect close to 110K in big games.

Slive’s SECN numbers had a huge impact on TAMU’s ability to pursue this upgrade. The Aggies are intent on becoming the top draw in Texas, and the top program in the SEC. Time will tell if they are successful.
