Backup LB leaving Oklahoma State

A week after putting the finishing touches on its set of spring practice sessions, Oklahoma State has seen its depth at linebacker take a bit of a hit.

A Cowboys spokesperson confirmed to the Daily Oklahoman that junior Nico Ornelas has decided to leave the OSU football program. The decision to move on was prompted by what the school would only describe as personal reasons.

Ornelas was not listed on the Cowboys’ pre-spring game roster, so the departure is not exactly unexpected.

After coming to Stillwater as a three-star member of OSU’s 2011 recruiting class, Ornelas played in 23 games the past two seasons. He played in all 13 games in 2012 in a backup role and was credited with 18 tackles.
