Frosh All-American booted by Boise

Unfortunately for Sam Ukwuachu, following up on a sensational redshirt freshman season, at least at Boise State, won’t be on the agenda.

The Broncos announced Tuesday afternoon that the talented young defensive lineman has been dismissed from the football program. The garden variety (violation of unspecified team rules” was the reason given by the school.

Ukwuachu did not play in the spring game due to what head coach Chris Petersen described as “some personal things he’s taking care of.”

In 2012, Ukwuachu played in all 13 games in his second season at the school, starting the final 12 games of the year. After being credited with seven tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks -- each total being third on the team -- he was named a Freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America.

In addition to the news of Ukwuachu’s dismissal, backup quarterback Jimmy Laughrea has decided to leave the team. A three-star member of BSU’s 2011 recruiting class, Laughrea did not see any game action as a redshirt freshman last season.
