Minnesota, TCU schedule future home-and-home

For those yearning some additional Big Ten-on-Big 12 football action, your wish has been fulfilled.

In joint press releases, Minnesota and TCU announced the scheduling of a home-and-home series beginning next season. The Horned Frogs will host the Golden Gophers at Amon G. Carter Stadium on Sept. 13, 2014. TCU will play at TCF Bank Stadium on Sept. 3, 2015.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to face a very good Minnesota program that’s coming off a bowl season,” TCU head coach Gary Patterson said in his statement. “To schedule someone non-conference from such a prestigious league like the Big Ten helps enhance our recruiting efforts. We’ve played Big Ten opponents in the past and know it will be a tremendous challenge.”

The 2014 game, which fills a hole in that season’s schedule, will mark just the second time the two football programs have met on the gridiron. In 1974, the Gophers held off the Horned Frogs 9-7 in old Memorial Stadium in Minneapolis.

The 2015 game will replace South Dakota State on Minnesota’s schedule, further evidence that the Big Ten’s edict of eliminating FCS cupcakes from its future scheduling diet is in full swing.
