Mike Golic’s son transferring from Notre Dame to Cincinnati

Jake Golic, Mike Golic Jr. AP

Tight end Jake Golic (pictured left) never made much of an impact on the field for Notre Dame. That’s understandable considering he sat behind guys like Tyler Eifert and Kyle Rudolph. Now, the son of former Irish and NFL defensive lineman Mike Golic will spend his final year of eligibility somewhere else.

Mike Golic said on ESPN’s “Mike and Mike” that his son will transfer to Cincinnati as a grad student and be eligible to play right away. Officially, UC cannot comment on the transfer until he enrolls. The Bearcats are looking to replace the productivity of Travis Kelce, who was taken in the third round of last month’s NFL draft by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Golic will rejoin former Notre Dame teammate Gunner Kiel at Cincinnati. The quarterback was added to UC’s roster last month.

Makes perfect sense. Reunite with someone you’ve played with in the past. Hopefully work well together, be productive for UC, and make a statement to NFL teams as to why you’re that caliber of player. Wish him nothing but the best.

What is ND’s policy on admission to graduate studies from within?

When the going gets tough…..the Golic gets going!

Hope he can stay healthy. Best if luck Jake

It is probably not accurate to say he “transferred” from Notre Dame. That has a negative connotation. He recently graduated from Notre Dame following his senior year and has now enrolled in graduate school at Cincinnati with the opportunity to exercise his fifth year option to play football at Cincinnati. Best of luck to you, Jake. We all wish you well and hope you hit a home run with the Bearcats.

Cincinnati has a grad program that ND doesn’t

But he’ll be coached by Tubbyville. Really? Why didn’t he just enter the draft if he’s already graduated from ND?

Enter the draft? Because he wants to play you idiot. This is his last year of football. Talk about clueless ^^^^

Florida 727 doesn’t realize that Kiel is not eligible this season. DUH

He really never played with Keil (ok practice and Xbox), so to say he is going to play with someone he is familar with? Keil won’t even play this year, so Golic will not get on the field with him.

M&M. Worst sports talk radio show ever. So freaking corporate it’s sickening.

While we are on the subject of Golic……has there ever been another average NFL player parlay his meager skill set into a sweeter ride than Big Mike??? He has a less than average VOICE and his opinions are ALWAYS predictable….he plays the safe “company line” so as not to offend any in the football frat…..his insights are rarely deeper than the SURFACE and he rides the jock vs sissy train to the point where the only time I listen is when there is at least one guest host. Then there’s Greenie…..cmon man don’t you ever tire of this blather? You have skills, honestly get you a serious journalistic gig at NBC Sports Talk or Fox Sports 1….. You’ve got the knowledge, the communication skill and the style to go BIG on TV….please….do something with your life the Aw Shucks routine playing the foil to Mike and his noise are shameful….go BIG….or go away….

It’s a shame for the kid. Maybe that blabbering blustery bitching dad of his will start to display some humility now.

Wow @cranespy! If you don’t like Mike and Mike, the answer is very simple, Don’t Listen.
There is obviously an audience for them or they wouldn’t be on at all. I think you almost have to respect Golic for the background that he has to doing the job that he has now. He is very successful with that whether you like it or not. They obviously are doing something they like to do and get paid very well for it. What is wrong with that? Why not be happy for them!

How does cranespy know when there is a guest host on unless he’s listening all the time?

    @cjd

I envision a beat up POS septic tank truck – piloted by cranespy of course – with a broken radio, stuck on the local sports talk radio station. Deep down he is an NPR fan, and is tortured by hours and hours of ESPN radio day in and day out. Kinda like the Unabomber without teeth, we may all have just witnessed his manifesto. Which probably means that if your a college football fan and your toilet backs up, you’re most likely SOL.

Just a theory of course. He could also be driving one of those DOT trucks that pick up trash from interstate medians. Or a homeless guy posting between blackouts.
