Thanks to the pettiness of his now-former head coach, Wes Lunt‘s wish list of preferred potential transfer destinations was whittled from five to two.
The ex-Oklahoma State quarterback has already visited one of the two remaining on that list, with the second reportedly set to be checked off as well.
According to ESPN.com‘s Joe Schad on Twitter, Lunt will take a trip to Louisville Tuesday and visit with the Cardinals football program. The sophomore-to-be has already visited Illinois, with some observers viewing the Illini as the prohibitive favorite due to a level of comfortability with that particular coaching staff.
The other three schools on Lunt’s list were Southern Miss, Tennessee and Vanderbilt, none of which, barring a successful appeal and/or lawsuit, Lunt will be permitted to transfer to on scholarship. Presumably, Southern Miss is on the banned list because former Cowboys offensive coordinator Todd Monken is there as head coach, while the two SEC schools -- along with every other school in that conference -- are on the list because, as Lunt’s former high school coach stated, “they could play in bowl games.’
In addition to the above, Central Michigan (future opponent) and the entire Pac-12 (again, potential future bowl opponent) have been banned by OSU. Lunt could pay his way to any of those institutions on the banned list and [insert giant wanking motion here].
Interestingly, another school could be added to Lunt’s visiting to-do list as well.
In the same tweet confirming the Louisville visit, Schad wrote the following: “Don’t be surprised if ND reconnects w Lunt after Golson’s departure.”
As you are well aware of by now, it was confirmed by Notre Dame last night that starting quarterback Everett Golson is no longer enrolled in school. While Lunt would not help the Irish’s situation at the position in 2013 as he has to sit out the year, he will have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2014 and could be a viable option next year.
Provided the South Bend school isn’t added to Mike Gundy‘s heavy-handed not-to-do list, of course.
