Washington WR medically retires due to injury; four others granted releases

Washington’s wide receiver depth has taken a hit. In a release sent out Thursday, Huskies coach Steve Sarkisian announced that wide receiver James Johnson is hanging up the cleats for medical reasons.

Specifically, Johnson (pictured right) sustained a wrist injury last year and has been unable to return. Johnson, who would have been a fifth-year senior in 2013, played in 30 games at the UW, catching 68 passes for 791 yards and seven touchdowns. He will be able to finish out his college career on scholarship to get his degree.

Additionally, Sarkisian announced that the following four players have been granted release from their scholarships: receiver Jamaal Jones, defensive back Darien Washington, running back Erich Wilson II and linebacker Evan Zeger. Wilson is said to be transferring to San Jose State.
