Houston’s leading receiver ineligible, no longer with the team

FBC-Rice vs. Houston AP

Last month it was learned that Houston would not have its leading rusher from 2012 for the 2013 season.

Now, it appears the Cougars won’t have their leading returning receiver for the upcoming fall, either.

According to both the Houston Chronicle and, wide receiver Dewayne Peace is no longer with the Cougars football team.  Sources with knowledge of the situation told both media outlets that Peace has been ruled academically ineligible, thus his departure from the program.

The school has not yet confirmed the player’s status.

Peace led Houston in receptions (54) and receiving yards (603) while adding two touchdowns despite missing three games due to a suspension.  However, he worked with the second-team offense throughout the spring.

Back in May, Charles Sims, whose 851 yards led the Cougars in 2012, announced that he was leaving UH for unspecified reasons.

Its been raining on the UH football program since Sumlin left.

Levine may not be the right guy for the job. He doesn’t seem to have control of this program at all.

Peace is going out for academics, same thing that Charles Sims was booted out of school for in 2010…but Sims got his act together, came back and graduated…..why he left UH is unknown, but UH has a trio of soon to be sophomores and some good incoming freshmen at RB and Sims was too injury prone.

as for Peace, sucks for him..hopefully the young man will follow the Sims example and go to juco, get his work done and come back to UH

Im not closing the book on Levine yet…UH lost their whole offense last year…Keenum, all four starting receivers from 2011 and Sumlin went to A&M…..I think UH can go 9-3 this year, provided they learn how to play some defense

Neither may a dozen or so other coaches this year. I have seen people leave many other programs to go where the players seem to feel that the grass is greener and in Peace’s case, no one can take a classroom test for a player, but the player. BTW, didn’t Sumlin recruit this fellow?
