Last month it was learned that Houston would not have its leading rusher from 2012 for the 2013 season.
Now, it appears the Cougars won’t have their leading returning receiver for the upcoming fall, either.
According to both the Houston Chronicle and ESPN.com, wide receiver Dewayne Peace is no longer with the Cougars football team. Sources with knowledge of the situation told both media outlets that Peace has been ruled academically ineligible, thus his departure from the program.
The school has not yet confirmed the player’s status.
Peace led Houston in receptions (54) and receiving yards (603) while adding two touchdowns despite missing three games due to a suspension. However, he worked with the second-team offense throughout the spring.
Back in May, Charles Sims, whose 851 yards led the Cougars in 2012, announced that he was leaving UH for unspecified reasons.
