Defensive lineman Kaufusi leaves Cal

Keni Kaufusi

As often happens during the time between the end of spring practice and the start of summer camp, an FBS has taken yet another unexpected hit to the depth of one of its unit.

The latest to face attrition is Cal, which confirmed earlier this week that defensive lineman Keni Kaufusi has decided to take his leave of the football program.  No reason for the departure was given.

During his four years with the Golden Bears, Kaufusi played in a total of 16 games.  He started two games last season, with his 2.5 sacks tied for fifth on the team.

On Cal’s post-spring depth chart, Kaufusi was listed as the No. 2 defensive tackle behind starter Mustafa Jalil.

I take it the new coach is doing some “my way or the highway” housekeeping.

Sigh, the home of my Master’s and JD studies has been on a downward spiral since that fateful night in October 2007.
