Kansas announces home-and-home with Hawaii

Charlie Weis in a lei and hula skirt? You betcha that dream is alive.

In a press release Wednesday, Kansas announced that it has agreed to a future home-and-home football series with Hawaii. The Jayhawks will host the Rainbow Warriors Sept. 24, 2016, and then travel to the islands Sept. 2, 2017, to complete the series.

In that latter year, the Jayhawks -- by NCAA rules -- would be permitted to add a 13th game to its schedule.

“We are very excited to announce this home-and-home series with Hawaii,” said the KU head coach in a statement. “We recognize Hawaii and the Islands as a fertile recruiting territory. Both our current players and prospects are excited that these two games are official.”

The first and only meeting between the two football programs took place in 1986, a 33-27 Jayhawks win in Honolulu. KU last played on the islands in the 1995 Aloha Bowl.
