The mess with the current 6-1-1 format for the SEC is proof that it either needs to go to a nine-game schedule or get rid of the permanent cross-division opponent…or both. At least on the old 5-1-2 format, the two rotating teams were on schedule that could be plotted out into infinity, so if Alabama wound up with two weak opponents along with Tennessee from the East, then that was clearly just the way the rotation landed. This current setup makes it look like the league is playing favorites from one year to the next, even if it is or isn’t.

What’s stopping the SEC from swapping Auburn and Alabama with Missouri and Vanderbilt from the east to the west? Wouldn’t this make everyone happy or am I missing something?

The Finnerty story is compelling & sad. I pray his family & friends can gain closure.

If the SEC would hire personnel who were not so radically fans of Alabama, and a former coach of Alabama to help with the scheduling, it would also pass the smell test a little better, I think. At least they might be able not have such a blatant case of conflict of interest or appearance of bias.
