Greg Dent suspended indefinitely after sexual assault arrest

Word broke Sunday night that Florida State wide receiver Greg Dent had been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a female friend in his apartment. Because Dent is currently facing a second-degree felony charge, which in this case is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, university policy mandates that he be suspended indefinitely until the matter is resolved.

Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher confirmed as much Monday evening in a rather, uh, “detailed” statement.

“We are aware of the situation with Greg Dent,” Fisher said. “He’s suspended indefinitely from all team activities as we let the legal process run its course.”

Why it took FSU nearly 24 hours after Dent was arrested to issue that statement isn’t clear, but the redshirt senior wasn’t released from jail until Monday afternoon after he posted bond.

The probable cause affidavit states that Dent attempted to have sex with his friend in the early hours of Sunday morning despite being told “no” twice. The woman was sleeping in Dent’s bed after the two returned from a night club that evening, and the report states it was not uncommon for her to stay the night at Dent’s place as the two had known each other since high school.
