Navy loses starting defensive lineman

Just a couple of months after exiting spring as the starter, Danny Ring has abruptly exited the Navy football program entirely.

An academy official confirmed to the Capitol Times that the defensive lineman is no longer a part of the team. In fact, Ring has tendered his resignation and will no longer attend the Naval Academy.

The Times’ writes that "[p]rior to their junior year at the academy, midshipmen must sign what are known as “two-for-seven” papers that pledge that for two more years of education they will serve five years in the Navy following graduation.”

The Lighthouse Point, Fla., product left the academy with the intention of transferring to an unknown school.

As a sophomore last season, Ring started three games at nose guard while playing in all 13 contests. He was listed as a starter on the Midshipmen’s post-spring depth chart.
