Adding another QB off the table for Michigan

Devin Gardner, Frank Clark, Brady Hoke AP

In the aftermath of a likely season-ending injury to backup Russell Bellomy, Michigan was not shy in acknowledging its interest in adding a transfer quarterback to shore up a woefully inexperienced position.

Over the past couple of months Arkansas’ Brandon Mitchell (landed at North Carolina State) and Florida State’s Clint Trickett (West Virginia) among others have been connected to UM to varying degrees.  With the start of summer camp fast approaching, and with Wes Lunt essentially the only one left in the transfer pool, finding some experience from outside the program is apparently no longer an option.

“I think we’re pretty set with what we have,” head coach Brady Hoke said at a camp Friday. “I believe in the guys we have in the program.”

The Wolverines are set at starter with Devin Gardner, and will be fine as long as the redshirt junior stays healthy.  After Gardner, though, it’s nothing but inexperienced question marks as far as the eye can see.

The only other scholarship quarterback on the roster at the moment is Shane Morris, who as a true freshman has yet to take his first snap at the collegiate level.  A pair of walk-ons appeared in UM’s spring game two months ago.

In other words, it would behoove the UM offensive line to be a very, very, very good unit this season as keeping Gardner upright and in one piece is of utmost importance.

Pick one up… but identifying ‘the next’ after Gardner is a critical piece…

I like Morris, but no way to be sure he’s ‘it’. He needs some tests early.

    Never hurts to have 3.

They are ALREADY making excuses because the Buckeyes are going to crush them.

Where’s the excuse? I know reading comprehension is sub par in Ohio but c’mon man.

CWallace… all we hear lately is childish pomp and smoke blowing from bucknut posters these days… are any of you past puberty?

How many years of eligibility does Gardner have? The guy has been there since Clinton was president. Is he trying to pull a “Griffey” and play on the same team with his son? Geez!

It’s called a medical redshirt for those ohio idiots. I know you guys have such a hard schedule every year they have one of the weakest schedules in the country every year. Play someone that’s ranked in the top 25 in non conference games for once in there life

Why would anyone, let alone a prospective QB want to play with an organization that continues to employ the team announcer and honorary letterman Frank “fried chicken” Beckmann?

That they have kept him around tells one all they need to know about the “plantation” mentality in ann arbor.

It’s easy to rip on osu’s schedule but maybe Michigan should go to that same strength of schedule. That Alabama game last yr was brutal. Round two will happen soon. At least you kept it close vs SC…..(flashbacks of that Clowney hit).

Better off suiting up against App. State….Not!

    Roll Tide!

Be careful what you wish for SEC. Michigan is coming back. Take a look at last years and already this years recruits. Winter is coming to SEC

    Desal,

LoL thanks for the laugh. I needed that.

Desal2ds- I think Bama, LSU, Florida, TA&M, etc. are doing just fine in recruiting. If you watched that game against Bama last year, you saw that there is still a gap their. Compete in the weakest BCS league first, then call out the big boys. In fact, the first step for you should be stopping the Meyer machine that’s rolling in OSU. Besides, winter in the South isn’t all that bad. Good luck going forward.

    Normtide,

You are spot on! Hasn’t um lost to osu something like 10 out of 11 or something crazy like that. I read that in either espn mag or si.

SEC Sucks. I currently live down here in this southern mess and all of the these fans suck.

  15. gary2525 says: Jun 16, 2013 2:19 PM

All the osu fans talk about is losing 10 of 11 but what about MU beat the crap out of osu during the cooper years. What everyone forget about those years.

  16. jrs45 says: Jun 16, 2013 7:01 PM

    Gary,

Trust me SEC fans know that OSU has dominated UM fans for years now. It’s a known fact.

    P.S.

UM Alums would be upset too see you type “MU” lol! Some kinda fan you are.

Hey SEC fans. How about some facts here. When was the last time an SEC team played a game in temps. below freezing? By the way arent all the bowl games played in the south or south west (no Cold). AND I guess the SEC-ESPN TV contract will keep ESPN over hyping the SEC to make better ratings. Didn’t ESPN hype Arkansas as National Champion lock last year. When SEC loses to SEC, the loser dosen’t drop as far as PAC-12 losint to PAC-12.
