UGA confirms season-ending ACL tear for DB Wilkerson

Unfortunately for both the player and the program, it was the worst news possible for Reggie Wilkerson.

Following up on tweets by the player and his teammates yesterday, Georgia confirmed via a press release Friday that the defensive back sustained a significant knee injury during voluntary pass drills earlier in the week.

Wilkerson underwent surgery earlier today to repair a torn meniscus. He will undergo a second surgical procedure at a date to be determined to reconstruct his ACL. As a result, Wilkerson will be medically redshirted for the 2013 football season and have four remaining years of eligibility beginning in 2014.

An early enrollee who participated in spring practice, Wilkerson was expected to contribute immediately to the Bulldogs’ secondary.
