Updated: Bob Stoops’ home burglarized early Wednesday morning

Bob Stoops

Well, this is a scary situation.

According to multiple reports, including the Tulsa World and ESPN.com, the home of Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops was burglarized early Wednesday morning at around 3:30 a.m. A car was among the items said to be taken from the residence. Stoops himself was in Wichita, Kan., and the family was unaware the home had been robbed until they woke up that morning. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

The Norman Police Department is investigating the incident, but no one has been arrested in connection to the burglary yet.

It’s been an eventful couple of months for the Stoops family for all the wrong reasons. In May, the devastating tornado that ripped through central Oklahoma came “about a mile” from Stoops’ home.

All things considered, the Stoops family is fortunate things haven’t turned out worse.

Updated 1:30 p.m. ET: There’s not a lot of new information in the burglary incident at Bob Stoops’ house, but OU did send out a statement Thursday afternoon. It doesn’t say much, but here it is:

“Coach Stoops and Carol appreciate the concern expressed for their family and appreciate the efforts of local authorities who are handling this matter.”

The good thing is no one was hurt. Material items can be replaced. People cannot.

Thank goodness he didn’t have a lot of championship stuff to lose. Those rings and crystal footballs are expensive.

Coach Stoops was very instrumental in bringing attention, assistance, and volunteers to Moore, Norman and all the areas around that were so devastated by the tornadoes. I met Coach Stoops several times while I was there. He asked if there was anything else he could do. All the volunteers, just told him to keep doing what he was doing. We all thanked him and that included a large number of homeowners, at least they were homeowners before, now they are lot owners, having lost their homes.

I am so sorry to hear of this car theft and burglary. I hope Norman Police solve this quickly. Best to Coach Stoops and his staff and the many players who volunteered and continue to volunteer to help those who lost their homes and possessions.

God bless all who have helped in any way, and those who continue to clean up and start again.

You gotta either have a HUGE brass pair between your legs or an incredibly small brain in your head.

OU fans are crazy. I’m one of them. I used to live near Norman. When someone finds out you stole Bob Stoops car, you’re probably going to get the crap kicked out of you. You know how many Sooner fans are in jails in Oklahoma? Hell, I’m in Arizona and not long ago we put a guy to death… his last words? “Boomer Sooner!”

We look out for our own, and messing with Bob is messing with hundreds of thousands of people.

Didn’t arm the security system? You can get them to call your smart phone now.

Just to be a jackarse, I’m begging to differ. The devastating tornado missed my home and community by about a half-block; my house is approximately 3+ miles northwest of Stoops’ house.

Nothing south of 164th was touched. End of soapbox rant.

Looks like the decline in his defense has carried over to his personal life now.

    @datcrazy
I’m sure if the robber reads your comments, he might as well go back and kill Stoops if you’re right in assuming that all Sooner fans are going to “getem.”
