BYU agrees to ’15 Poinsettia Bowl affiliation

Assuming the Cougars are bowl eligible, of course. Then again, BYU has never had a losing season under coach Bronco Mendenhall.

In what has sort of become BYU day here at CFT -- you’re off the hook, Oregon -- the university announced it has agreed to play in the 2015 Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego provided it meets the minimum bowl eligibility requirements. And if the Cougars don’t get selected to College Football Playoff.

“We had a fantastic experience at the Poinsettia Bowl in December and are excited to return in 2015,” said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe in a statement. “San Diego has hosted some of the great football moments in our program’s history, and I’m excited for our large fan base in Southern California to have other opportunities to see us play in person.”

The Poinsettia Bowl is currently in discussions with the Mountain West Conference, BYU’s old conference, to continue its partnership through 2019.

The Cougars beat San Diego State 23-6 in the 2012 edition of the bowl.
