Kirk Herbstreit signs with ESPN through 2022

Florida Tennessee Football AP

Kirk Hebrstreit has been one of the most recognizable personalities in college football over the past several years. As the popularity of the sport has grown, so has Herbstreit’s presence on ESPN.

And the network plans to keep him around. ESPN announced on Thursday it signed Herbstreit to an extension that takes him through 2022. Herbstreit will continue to work as an analyst for ABC’s Saturday Night Football with Brent Musburger and College GameDay.

Herbstreit will also work as a color analyst for one National Semifinal and the National Championship Game once College Football Playoff begins in 2015.

What a waste of money. Herbstreet,May and Holz. Only one has any talent. May needs to get a huge pay raise if KH gets that kind of money. Maybe they can replace Holz with a talking monkey. Wouldn’t be any drop of in talent.

Wrong! May is a whoopee cushion windbag. Herbstreit talks a lot but at least he is insightful. Holtz is a poor man’s Lee Corso, and he is going senile.

You seriously just said May deserves a raise? You really must not watch ESPN. If you want an “expert” who kisses the top schools rear end each week, then May is your man. Do you not remember how much he used to talk over and over about Pete Carroll and USC?

    May – Excellent
Herbstreit – Average but very easy on the eyes
Corso – Funny however usually wrong
    Holtz -Dead man talking

Herbstreit got some job security. I would expect May to receive a comparable extension. I can usually tolerate Corso because he is so funny, even though he is more wrong than funny. Holz needs to go home (or to the home).

The amount of useless talk that surrounds sports these days is mind blowing. I truly would rather watch ANY sport where people actually are competing at something than listen to the parade of commentary and analysis repeated over and over just to collect a paycheck. Not one word uttered by any of them,on any channel,no matter the event or sport ,has any bearing or connection to the actual game being played. They are not important, relevant or entertaining. The huge panels that sit around a counter in their monkey suits grasping at relevancy and producing endless inanity is saddening, and the idea that people actually tune in to see and hear any of it is almost tragic….. watching former players pimp themselves is the worst part…..because I know that they know in their hearts how silly it all is…..

May is by far the worst

However good/bad, ESPN’s CFB coverage is vastly superior to their coverage of the NFL and NBA.

I’m a Buckeye and an Irish Catholic. Maybe I’m a little paranoid, but it seems that Mark May goes out of his way to criticize tOSU and Notre Dame. Lou Holtz is definitely a “Homer” when it comes to Notre Dame and South Carolina (at least he admits it). May and Holtz would both be better analysts if they would stop being so openly biased.

I hate when people say does anyone watch ESPN, because that particular person might not..It’s ridiculous.

Right on, just get rid of Musburger.

I love sports, so yes, I still watch espn/ABC. As for the analyst, I like them for the most part. If you don’t like them, don’t watch. Free market says they will be taken of the air.
