Arrest made in Howard’s Rock vandalism

micah rogers

And apparently the person of interest has, of all things, a Clemson sticker on the truck used to commit the crime. Go figure.

Clemson police announced on Friday they had arrested 18-year-old Micah Rogers (pictured) of North Carolina in connection to the vandalism of the iconic Howard’s Rock earlier this month. Rogers has been charged with one felony count of malicious injury to animals or personal property valued at more than $2,000, but less than $10,000. He is also facing one misdemeanor count of trespassing.

Police Capt. Eric Hendricks said Rogers was captured on surveillance and identified by a witness. Rogers has already released on bond, and according to Hendricks, owns Tigers memorabilia (LOLWUT?). The investigation is currently ongoing as a portion of the rock is still missing and other arrests could be coming.

Police had previously released surveillance video and photos of a white truck believed to be connected to the vandalism, offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. The incident, which resulted in a portion of the rock being chipped away, is said to have happened on June 2.

“On behalf of the athletic department and the football coaches and players, I want to thank the Clemson University Police Department, the State Law Enforcement Division and the Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office for acting in a swift, thorough manner with regards to the vandalism to Howard’s Rock,” said Clemson Athletic Director Dan Radakovich. “We appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in this case.”

Howard’s Rock was named in honor of legendary Tigers head coach and College Football Hall of Famer Frank Howard. Touching the rock before running down the hill into Clemson’s Memorial Stadium is one of the great traditions in all of college football.

I am going to predict he applied and was denied admission to Clemson. I guess he got his revenge.

Just wanted to have his own piece to run on game day.

It did not take them long to find the miscreant (as a dear friend calls them). I only wonder how he broke into the area to do this damage without cameras recording him and alarms going off…but I am glad they have their man, err, boy.

A Clemson fan damaging the icon. It is a strange world we live in…

University of South Carolina fans are too classy to participate in incidents like this. This young man obviously collects Clemson memorabilia. I hope he knows where the missing of the rock is and returns it.
Defacing property is not wise to do under any circumstance. At least this young didn’t knock up some girl like some of the thugs we’ve read about on these threads. Then they want to go to college while “Mama” stays home with the kid….and he continues to party and enjoy the college life……not even taking advantage of learning how to learn. Thugs all of them… respect for morally corrupt young people regardless of race, religion. creed, etc. Poor parenting….

“University of South Carolina fans are too classy”
anyone who has attended a game at Williams-Brice the past few seasons would strongly disagree with this statement….

^^^ I went to the Outback Bowl a few times and seen how non-classy they really were.

Gee fellas, I’m so sorry you wern’t treated well at Williams-Brice Stadium. Maybe the fear of coming into an SEC venue frightened some of the scribers on this site. Gamecock fans are very friendly and kind. We go out of our way to make opponent fans feel welcome. I’m also wondering if jealousy has anything to do with your POV. Clemson with its high-power offense, has lost four straight to South Carolina. And you certainly can’t blame us for Coach Howard’s broken rock! We now know that it was one of your low-life fans.

This nut-case, paully walnuts Hargis, is now following my every post. He’s trained like Pavlov’s Dogs! I keep encouraging him to take his meds, but dumbo keeps flappin his wings.

laugh all you want grand wizard, you’re being reported for every racist post you make. Its just a matter of time Jethro.

  9. helladonks says: Jun 29, 2013 8:58 AM

Omg would you STFU with this nonsensical “racist” crap? You guys inter-fight like Tweens on FBI

  10. helladonks says: Jun 29, 2013 9:01 AM

And every fan base has their “good” and “bad” fans. It’s unfair to lump them all as “bad” just because of a few unruly ones you’ve encountered. Clemson included.

    Grow up people.

Tradition: Clemson University has cultivated an amazing tradition of winning and success throughout the history of their football program. Over the last several decades ” The Rock” has come to symbolize that tradition.

Rivalry: Clemson University has many conference and regional rivals; however no rivalry is more intense then the in state rivalry between Clemson and the University of South Carolina. While Clemson’s Program clearly has the upper hand in almost every statistical category in this historic rivalry, these games are often exciting, and very closly contested. In this state, the annual game between the Tigers and the Gamecocks divide neighborhoods, coworkers, and even families.

Insanity: blaming an entire fan base (USC) for defacing the symbol of Clemson University’s football tradition before a thorough and complete investigation is conducted.

I’m glad they made an arrest, and I’m sorry that this happened. But suspecting your neighbor after your house is broken into is what is wrong with this rivalry and why our communities are not as strong as they should be.

Leave him in the locker room for a tune up.

As a Clemson fan I hate to see that happen to the rock but it should have been more secure. He will learn a lesson and already is. His family has been inundated with phone calls from angry fans. He will live to regret this.

As far as the gamecocker goes. “Classy”? That word and 95% of gamecock fans should never be used in the same sentence. Especially by the gamecocker. He is just another SCAR troll that has nothing better to do than celebrate 4 wins against Clemson and another 4th place finish in the SEC. He will not be on here in another couple of years after Spurrier retires and SCAR goes back to being the perennial doormat they historically have been.

  14. thegamecocker says: Jun 29, 2013 7:13 PM

We’ve won 4 in a row and you’re the asshole

  15. helladonks says: Jun 29, 2013 9:02 PM

As usual, I’m ashamed to be a Gamecock fan because of fans like thegamecocker.
Sports Talk nation, PLEASE don’t judge us all based on the mindless babbling of an elderly man, lost and confused in a cyber era he’ll never understand.

  16. thegamecocker says: Jun 30, 2013 12:09 PM

If you are a true Gamecock fan, read above what was said about SC fans at the Outback Bowl. I’m not the one initiating the back-and-forth with the maniac, Paul Hargis. Quite the opposite. You think my posts are “mindless babbling of an elderly man, ……”. Son, grow a set of nuggets and defend yourself against those Clemson fans who feel they are better than you! We did not destroy or damage “Howard’s Rock”. One of their supporters did. That is all I stated. Now, we may not like one another, but we share the fact we are Gamecock fans. Grow up son and get Hargis some help. He is a sick SOB!!!

  17. helladonks says: Jun 30, 2013 4:29 PM

No, I will NOT stoop to your level and engage in playground back-and-forth’s that display a level of immaturity that even my 6 year old nephew would be embarrassed by. I’m no better than the “bad” fans they speak of at that point. And that doesn’t make me any LESS of a fan either.

  18. thegamecocker says: Jun 30, 2013 4:37 PM

Son, you already responded to my post. Why not just NOT respond and give it a break. You can go with the sheep to slaughter. Not me! I fight for what I believe in. You let people step on you. Not the way built. I actually feel sorry for you. Wouldn’t want to be in a foxhole with you….you’d run!!!

  19. helladonks says: Jun 30, 2013 6:40 PM

Because I’m nice and polite and refuse to disrespect people I’m “soft” or something? You are delirious. I never said I would t respond. I meant stoop to YOUR level of child hood ranting and name calling, but I suppose you weren’t smart enough to infer that. And why would I be in a foxhole with an old man?
