Vandy dismisses four players caught up in sex crime probe

James Franklin AP

Following up on a story that broke Friday evening, Vanderbilt announced Saturday that four members of its Commodore football program have been dismissed from the team.

The university also placed the four players, whose names have yet to be released, on interim suspension “effective immediately, pending further investigation and/or a hearing.”  The release further added that none of the four will be permitted to return to campus without permission from the office of student conduct and academic integrity.

“The well-being of our students is of paramount concern to us, and we will not tolerate any actions that threaten student safety and security,” Beth Fortune, Vanderbilt vice-chancellor for public affairs, said in a statement.

The four unnamed players were initially suspended by the football program amid an investigation by the Nashville Police Department regarding alleged sex crimes.  The crimes allegedly occurred in a campus dormitory, and the Vandy police department is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Head coach James Franklin has not commented publicly on the situation.

“Because it’s an ongoing investigation, we will not be releasing names or other information about those suspended,” the school stated.

So even the nearly Ivy League schools have troublemakers.

Except Vandy is in the SEC… (though you are right that they are usually looked at as having more class in their proverbial crotch than all of Nick Saban)

And this is why Lionel Richie left the Commodores.

Vandy needs to do a better job of not letting their players illegal activities make it to public knowledge. They need to hire the same scumbag lawyer that UF uses. I’m stil shocked Hernandez hasn’t tried using him, he’d have his murder charges reduced to a traffic violation and be suspended the first half of a pre season game.

Or should I say “Team SEC”. Lol

What about the cheating scandal at Harvard last year? At least no one died like Lizzie Serberg did at ND? And Declan Sullivan too.

You mean the same Lizzie that tried to kill herself before her parents let her transfer to nd which was even further away from her home? Yeah that mentally unstable Lizzie. The same case the SB police department investigated and found nothing? Nice try clown. ND or the player did nothing wrong there.

    Back to the SEC! SEC!

Just because you are one of the three SEC schools that require an SAT score doesn’t exactly make you “nearly an IVY”

I just love the way you ignorant posters rip the SEC schools. Do me a favor. Have one of your kids try to qualify academically for admission to the University of Florida. Let me know how it works out for your kid. Better have a 4.0 and a heck of an SAT score. Either that or fulfill some stupid minority quota for them. Otherwise your kid wouldn’t sniff the campus. I know plenty of 4.0’s that got rejected.

EXCELLENT post! Georgia and SC are two other schools that are difficult to gain admission to if you are out of state!!! Florida is a tremendous academic institution and highly competitive for high achieving students. Be careful about the “minority quota” comment though because some asshole named Paul Hargis will attempt to label you a racist. Just ignore this sick SOB. The Gamecocker

A lot of Florida’s player issues need to be laid at the feet of those responsible…….

Urban Meyer …….. please stand up

  13. steeler1nation says: Jun 30, 2013 7:56 PM

how about the concept of young MEN these days actually being held accountable and responsible for their OWN ACTIONS!
Blame it on Urban Meyer all you want, but you sound like a fool.
The blame needs to be placed on:
    1.) The kid himself
    2.) The kid’s parents

    and nobody else

With the immediate access to information via the internet and plus the ability we now have of capturing criminals on camera, you would think that miscreants would think twice about committing crimes. The kid should be held accountable and the parents or parent or grand-ma-ma, or aunt, etc. should be teaching and reinforcing the fact that hurting someone, stealing, or damaging property is just not a good thing to do.
