Academics will likely keep FAU RB Travis Jones off the field in ’13

Travis Jones

In one fell swoop, FAU’s depth in the backfield as well as its special teams has taken a potentially significant hit.

According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, running back Travis Jones is no longer listed on the Owls’ online roster and is not expected to return to the team.  A source told the paper that Jones is expected to leave the school before the start of summer camp.

Academic problems are believed to be at the root of Jones’ departure from the squad.

Jones ran for just 85 yards last season, but did catch 18 passes coming out of the backfield.  Where his departure will really hurt, though, is in the return game as he led the Owls in kick returns (20 yards) and punt returns (7.9).
