Tragic: new Ole Miss OL killed in car accident

2013 FOOTBALL HEADSHOTS DAY 1

Sadly, this Independence Day weekend will not be without tragedy for the Ole Miss community.

Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze confirmed last night that sophomore offensive lineman Park Stevens passed yesterday. Park was involved in a car accident in Mississippi Wednesday afternoon. According to police, Stevens’ truck collided with the back of a semi truck attempting to cross the four-lane highway.

Police did not initially identify Stevens in the wreck.

Several of Parks’ teammates, and even those from other schools, began tweeting out their condolences yesterday evening.

“Our team is hurting tonight with the loss of Park,” Freeze said in a statement. “He was a tremendous young man that was loved by his teammates and coaches, and Rebel Nation will never forget him. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Stevens’ family, his friends, our team and all those he touched during his life.”

Stevens, just 20 years old, joined the Rebels this past spring a walk-on transfer after spending two seasons at East Central Community College.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Park and Ole Miss family during this unimaginably difficult time.

Condolences and prayers to Rebel Nation. Rooting interests get set aside during a difficult time like this. It’s a shame to see someone this young and talented have their dreams end so tragically. Life is so fragile. God bless, Ole Miss family.

scalpemseminoles, there’s a family grievin right now and all of the guessin on your part doesn’t fill the space of their loss. There’s no time for you or anybody else to play detective, leave that up to the professionals and just deal with the questions to yourself. I’m sorry for comin off so bold but damn it the young fellow nor his family deserve outsiders askin questions.
