Okay, now we’re really getting into swing of the preseason watch lists. The Maxwell Football Club released two preseason watch lists today for the Maxwell Award and the Bednarik Award.
The Maxwell Award, the watch list for which you can view below, is given annually to the player of the year in college football. Last year’s winner was Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o. Te’o made history in 2012 when he became the first player to win both the Maxwell and the Bednarik in the same year.
This year’s watch list features a whopping 76 players. Semifinalists from last year’s Maxwell Award -- Clemson QB Tajh Boyd, USC WR Marqise Lee, Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel, Alabama QB AJ McCarron, Ohio State QB Braxton Miller and Oregon RB De’Anthony Thomas -- are featured on this year’s watch list.
The winner of the Maxwell will be announced at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 12.
