Report: Connor Brewer transferring from Texas

In early February, Connor Brewer was arrested on a couple of misdemeanor, alcohol-related charges. Five months later, it appears the quarterback’s days as a Texas Longhorn have come to an end.

According to Horns247.com, Brewer has decided to transfer out of the UT football program and is no longer a member of the team. No reason was given for the decision to transfer, although it’s not believed to be at all related to his minor legal issues earlier this offseason.

While UT has yet to confirm the departure, the website reports that such an announcement could be forthcoming Wednesday.

Brewer was an early enrollee in January of 2012. A four-star member of UT’s recruiting class last year, Brewer was rated by Rivals.com as the No. 10 pro-style-quarterback in the country and the No. 5 player at any position in the state of Arizona.

He took a redshirt for his true freshman season.

Following a stellar spring game performance, true freshman early enrollee Tyrone Swoopes moved past Brewer on the depth chart, behind starter David Ash and backup Case McCoy. His spot in the quarterbacking pecking order could’ve played a role in his apparent decision to transfer, although that has yet to be confirmed.
