Off-field issues this offseason have already hit Washington’s second-leading receiver last season. Now, the Huskies’ leading receiver in 2012 has gotten himself involved in, well, something.
In a statement released Tuesday evening, UW head coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed that he is aware of “an incident” involving wide receiver Kasen Williams. Just what that incident was isn’t apparent in Sarkisian’s statement, which appears in its entirety below.
“We are aware of an incident involving Kasen Williams in Chelan County on May 26,” the coach stated. “As a matter of policy, any disciplinary measures taken as a result of this incident will remain internal to the team.”
“Also as a matter of policy, no one at the UW will have any further comment on the matter at this time.”
Subsequent to the release of statement, however, Adam Jude of the Seattle Times reported that “Williams paid a fine of $695.50 related to [a] misdemeanor [charge] of consuming alcohol or marijuana while driving.” The charge was not, however, a DUI.
Last season, Williams led the Huskies in receptions (77) and receiving yards (878). The former total is the third-highest single-season total in school history.
In early March, tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins was involved in an automobile accident that ultimately netted the All-American candidate a drunk-driving charge and indefinite suspension.
