Ex-Cal QB Bridgford still on track for S. Miss transfer

A couple of months after leaving Cal, it was reported that Allan Bridgford would be moving on to Southern Miss. Two months later, the move is still not official, although it could be in very short order.

The quarterback confirmed to the Hattiesburg American Tuesday, the paper wrote, “that he intends to be at Southern Miss for the ‘last part’ of summer football workouts and participate in preseason camp.”

Bridgford is in the process of finishing up online courses that will allow him to graduate from Cal. That degree will also allow the quarterback to play immediately in 2013 instead of sitting out a season.

USM offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo was a position coach with the Bears the past two seasons, which played at least a small part in Bridgford’s decision to transfer to the Golden Eagles.

Last season, Bridgford started three games, completing less than 46 percent of his passes for 277 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. He appeared in a total of 10 games during his time at Cal. He announced in March that he was leaving that program.
