Ray Guy Award watch list comes in at 23 players strong

Ryan Allen

Hey, at least they’re a bit selective relative to other awards.

Regardless, the Ray Guy Award became the latest to release its watch list, with a mere 23 players making up this year’s initial group.  Included on the 2013 preseason list are four semifinalists from 2012: Florida’s Kyle Christy, Auburn’s Steven Clark, Marshall’s Tyler Williams and Iowa State’s Kirby Van Der Kamp.

The award has been given out annually since 2000 in honor of Ray Guy, the former Southern Miss and Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders great.  Last year’s award went to Louisiana Tech’s Ryan Allen, the second year in a row he claimed that honor.

Ray Guy is a great man and the best punter I ever saw. His flexibility and extension and hang time was just legendary. A really good group helping him with the Augusta Sports Foundation as well.

I miss our great punter Brad Wing.

There are so many good ones this season, but I have seen the excellence of some: Clark; Christy; Foster; and will see Perry in about another 51 days. My hope is all stay healthy during the season and are all able to give their best performances all year!

Only 13 more nominees and there’d be the same number of kickers here as the Rockettes.

That’s something I did not know…hmm. Punters and Rockettes.

Well, I know which ones have the best looking legs.

Florio would change this to Chris Kluwe award.
